STATEMENT#1:
This witness is currently incarcerated for murder. After carjacking a motorist, Gerald Johnson led Kansas City Police officers on a high speed chase. During this chase Johnson ran into a woman and killed her.
In December 2001 the purpose of the interview was to ask Gerald Johnson if he knew Steve Wright, Jr.? Gerald Johnson was interviewed by Federal Agents, while in the Jackson County Jail. Johnson told officers that he grew up with Steve Wright, Jr. and he knew Steve's family well, but the name he gave for Steve's dad was actually Steve's uncle's name." Gerald Johnson stated that he had most recent contact with Steve Wright, Jr. while in the Jackson County Jail. Johnson said that "Steve recanted a murder of a person that will only be called Victim #1." In or August or September 2001, Gerald Johnson said Steve Wright advised him that Wright and Brandon AKA Little B went to rob Victim #1 and the robbery went bad Johnson then stated that Wright DID NOT SAY he killed Victim #1, but he "BELIEVED that Steve did it." Records from the Jackson County Jail shows that Steve was only in the County Jail for 4 days. And in which time he was unable to interact with Gerald.
STATEMENT#2:
In October 2002, Gerald Johnson was interviewed. The interview was about the homicide of Victim #1, but somehow the victim was never mentioned. Detective Herrington told Johnson he was named as a person who had knowledge of the murder Victim #1. When asked about Steve Wright, Gerald Johnson said he was familiar with Steve Wright AKA Moody. Johnson stated that "Moody sold drugs and killed people". Johnson did not have any information about the allegations he made, this interview would end.
STATEMENT#3:
In November 2002, the following month Gerald would be interviewed again. Johnson NOW told investigators he and "Moody" killed Victim #1 for drugs. Johnson stated 'that a little dude name Jarvis knew about the homicide of Victim #1. Gerald Johnson had no further information to give agents about the murder of Victim #1. The interview ended.
STATEMENT#4:
(GRAND JURY): Gerald Johnson testified to the Grand Jury in 2004 that he and Steve Wright was supposed to rob Victim #1 for a key of cocaine once Victim #1 came outside of his (Victim #1) house. Johnson alleged that Jarvis was present. Johnson said, "Moody ran across the street, and gunned him down then Moody patted him down." Johnson further alleged, "Victim #1 he didn't have no money in his pocket." (Evidence from the crime scene shows that when Victim #1's body was found, money was found on him.) Johnson then stated, "Victim #1 was coming down the stairs outside of his house. Victim #1 didn't have nothing on him (Johnson was pertaining to the drugs.) Johnson alleged, "they jogged up 51st street'" referring to himself, Steve, and Jarvis (from Victim #1s' home this would have meant they jogged at least 2 blocks to their destination.) According to Johnson's statement, the alleged robbery and murder of Victim #1 would have been in broad daylight.) Johnson further went on to say, "Victim #1 was killed about 7 or 8 pm in the summer." (Evidence shows Victim #1 was killed around 11 or 12 at night.)
STATEMENT#5:
Months before Steve's trial Johnson would be interviewed for a 5th time. In this interview Johnson would change the name of the person that allegedly accompanied him and Steve during the murder of Victim #1. Johnson went on to say, "Victim #1 was on a bike and had a DUFFLE BAG, when he was gundowned. Johnson alleged that "he, Steve, and now Dion got into (Steve's) car that was parked on the next block, and they left." For 2 years, Mr. Johnson told federal agents, "that he, Steve, and Jarvis were present during the murder of Victim #1." In 2006, Johnson began stating to agents that "he, Steve, and Dion were present during the murder of Victim #1.Dion or Jarvis was never charged for this case, which is unlikely after their names had been mentioned in a serious crime. Jarvis and Dion had informed Steve's lawyer that they had no idea to why Gerald mentioned their names.A friend of the decease gave a statement to detectives that he witness Gerald and the decease banishing guns at one another prior to his death. Steve's lawyer did not call Dion or the decease's friend to testify in court. This is a disgrace to Steve's family as well as the victim family.
OUR SYMPATHY:
Steve as well as our family extend our deepest sympathy to the families of Victim #1 and pray that God continues to give them strength. We pray that justice is righteously served.
